The Showdown...

Rock, Paper, Scissors...SHOOT!

The Showdown was an introduction project to my college course. We did the storyboarding, the filming in one day, then continued the editing over multiple days.

The Showdown is inspired by the showdown scene in The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. We analysed this scene so we could understand the types of framing, angles, composition and movement used. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly uses specific types of framing, angles, composition and movement to increase tension, and so the analysis of the scene informed us on the ways we could do the same within our own versions of the show down.

As this was an introduction project, we had just learned about the different shot types and movements, and the planning documents used (like storyboards).

My storyboard for this project was very simple, I didn't too much detail, in the description for each of the pictures I only wrote the shot types i was planning on using, with pictures above them to give a rough idea of what I am planning on doing.

We created initial ideas plans - again this was also kept quite simple - this was to help us come up with ideas, the sheet suggested different elements like dialogue, characters, storyline etc. as this would get us thinking about different aspects.

Introduction & Pre-production

Production

Once we had finished the preparation materials, we were given an hour to film the Showdown.

During the filming, we followed the storyboards we created during the lesson, and even filmed extra shots (with different angles and movement - gives variety) as we came up with them, but we made sure we had continuation throughout the film, with where we were stood, which hand sign we were on (rock, paper or scissors) etc. As we were filming on a phone we made sure to film everything

Post production & distribution

Before starting to edit, we uploaded the footage to OneDrive, onto a shared file for the group to access, we then went ahead and named every bit of footage, so when it came to editing we knew what order the clips went in - and also to show if there was any extra clips of some of the other footage.

Every stage of making this film was new to me, though the trickiest stage was the post production stage. To edit together the footage we use Adobe Premiere Pro, which I had never used before, after an introduction on how to add the footage in, and sort them out, I experimented with the editing software. I learnt how to add effects and text, to shorten footage, to unlink footage and audio and more.

We also created accounts on YouTube, and used the music of YouTube studio as the background music on the film.

Even though we worked in groups to get the footage, we edited tour own versions of the film.
